The tone of the speeches in the initial years is aspirational; the speakers were also looking at providing confidence-building measures to encourage the newly set up institute to aspire for greater heights. In a pleasing contrast, the speeches in the latter half of the book portray an NID which has already become a pioneer in the field of design education in India so much so that it is now the dream of a vast majority of students to study here.
