Description

This issue of Designfolio is an informative blend of varied topics. The main story is an article on ‘Visual Rhetorics’ by Prof Hanno Ehses of the Nova Scotia College of Arts and Design, Canada. It spells out the inevitable significance of giving form to objects in any mode of communication and how it makes interpretation easy. The issue also consists of written pieces on informative topics such as the role of television in the Indian scenario, book designing, the interdependence of design and computers, ergonomic study of the work methods of beedi workers, the past and present of design, and designing an Indian vehicle that can be an effective means of transport and utility at the same time. One can even come across varied experiences in the field of design; namely, how Britain’s famous design consultancy called Pentagram acquired its repute, how a 9-1/2 minute film was made using techniques that gave a close to reality effect, how a postage stamp on the theme ‘love and care for elders’ was designed as per the requirement of the government and a Hindi description of the collective effort of students and faculty to make a 20 minute movie in it. This issue also features a review of Owen Jones’ book The Grammar of Ornament.
